Reports surfaced last week about the production of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and some of the drama that was said to have played out. Some of the charges included Jason Momoa show up on set drunk and Amber heard almost getting fired, but saved Elon Musk. There are also reports of a toxic work environment and a lot of reshoots done for the film after poor test screenings.
Director James Wan was recently asked about these rumors in an interview with Empire, and he denies that these rumors are true. He said:
“Of course, I’ve had to learn to be more Zen in dealing with all the noise around me. I’m a pretty private person. I don’t go on social media or get into arguments, but it’s difficult because this narrative has emerged as not being the reality. It’s fun to write about this noise and it gets clicks, but people don’t know the truth.”
Speaking about filming the film, Wan added:
“We probably worked seven or eight days [of reshoots, which is nothing for a movie of this size. It was just spread out because it’s so hard to get your actors back once you’ve finished the initial shoot.”
Wan seems like he’s pretty chill about everything and is acting like all of these reports have been overblown. It seems maybe the truth of everything has been twisted as it spreads across the internet. At the same time, if there was anything going on behind the scenes, he’s not to confirm it! He wants people to go out and watch his movie, so he’s going to put a positive spin on everything.
As for a possible third Aquaman movie, Wan hasn’t ruled it out saying:
“I haven’t directed a third movie [in a series] before, so I would be willing to do another one [Aquaman] if I had the same freedom that I had with these first two,” Wan said. “I’m not sure which direction [Gunn and Safran] they’ll get in, though, so who knows? I’ve learned to never say never.”
I mean, at this point, it all depends on what James Gunn and Peter Safran want to do. Regardless of what the truth and lies are, it would be nice if the movie actually ended up being better than what people expected.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be in theaters on December 20th.
