A new starHarry Potter I just left. After the deaths of the late Alan Rickman and Robbie Coltrane in 2016 and 2022 respectively, another great actor of the saga has died. HAS 82 years oldMichael Gambon, who played dear Dumbledore, has died in hospital consequences of pneumonia.
A rich (and surprising) career.
Michael Gambon’s family announced the sad news in a press release published on Thursday, September 28:
“We are devastated to announce the passing of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital, with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, after battling pneumonia. »
Born in 1940 in Dublin, this great actor leaves behind a career sixty years long and has received five Baftas. He gained worldwide fame playing Albus Dumbledore following the death in 2002 of Richard Harris, who played the headmaster of Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter. Michael Gambon played THE Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Princeand the two parts of Deathly Hallows.
But his filmography is far from limited to just the wizarding world. After making his stage and television debut in the 1960s, Michael Gambon became a familiar face in Hollywood. He has notably toured with Tim Burton (The sleeping valley), Wes Anderson (Aquatic life), Tom Hooper (A king’s speech) and more recently, Xavier Dolan (My Life with John F. Donovan).
While many of us associate him with Dumbledore’s always calm and benevolent temperament, Michael Gambon had several strings to his bow and was also an expert driver.
After a notable appearance at the auto show Higher gear, the actor even gave his name to one of the turns, after tackling it in spectacular fashion. After his death, the show’s former host, Jeremy Clarkson greeted the memory of a man “extremely fun” is one “amazing host”.
