79.1%: this is the rate of increase in cases of premature cancers declared within 30 years, revealed by a study published in the journal BMJ Oncology. Deaths among adults in their twenties, thirties or forties saw a 27.7% increase. Why such figures? Well, scientists don’t seem to have an exact answer.
Causes not always very clear
Chronic stress, junk food, endocrine disruptors… What are the exact causes that can contribute to the appearance of these premature tumors? Unfortunately, the authors of the study did not find an answer to this question. They also admit that the cause “it’s not clear yet”.
According to its authors, population growth has something to do with this. Poor nutrition (consumption of ultra-processed products, diets rich in red meat, little fruit), alcohol, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, excess weight and hyperglycemia are however the main factors of this overwhelming observation. Genetic and environmental factors could also contribute to this trend.
Despite everything, the causes are not always clear and further studies on the topic need to be carried out. The deadliest cancers are those of the breast, trachea, lung, intestine and stomach. The fastest growing tumors are those of the nasopharynx and prostate.

Increased risk of premature cancers in developed countries
Oddly enough, the risk of developing cancer before age 50 is higher in developed countries. Although we are not sure why, the development of screening, in countries with efficient health systems, has contributed to the increase in these statistics.
Other even more damning discoveries
Since growth of almost 80% was not enough, The number of premature cancer cases worldwide could increase by another 31% by 2030, especially among people aged 40 to 49, according to the modeling carried out by the researchers. Enough to give us confidence in the future…
