Do you dream of treating yourself to Freddie Mercury’s mustache comb, or one of his famous white tank tops? Well, it could soon be possible thanks to Sotheby’s, which is exhibiting the belongings of the late leader of the Queen group for auction.

The exhibition ” Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own » is filled with the belongings of his home, Garden Lodge, which he bequeathed to his friend Mary Austin. You have decided to sell the contents: 30,000 objects, 200 of which are currently on display at Sotheby’s. Among them, the grand piano used to compose ” Bohemian raspodia “, personal Polaroids, but also many clothes, reports the Keeper.
There’s a hodgepodge of jackets she wore to Queen’s debut in the 1970s, her red sequined catsuit worn at Wembley in 1978, or her biker jacket paired with red leggings to perform at the Saturday night live in 1982. But also her large collection of kimonos from Japan that she loved to wear at home.
Before becoming a rock star, Freddie Mercury had been able to put his flair for showmanship and fashion into his previous job as a thrift shop with a thrift stall at Kensington Market as well as a boutique assistant for the designer Alan Mair, who made the hottest platform boots on the glam rock scene. The evolution of the singer’s style from the relatively androgynous 1970s to the 1980s closer to masculine archetypes can also be found in this exhibition running in London until the start of the sale on 6 September 2023 at Sotheby’s.
