How to protect a child from the heat and the sun

Summer is coming and it’s important to protect the little ones from the heat (and the sun). But what are the gestures to know?

It’s not summer yet, but it almost feels like it. In recent days the temperature has risen sharply and, if we all have a more or less high heat tolerance threshold, with newborns, we must be particularly vigilant.

So how do you protect a small roast from the heat and the sun?

Sun and baby, what you need to know

To protect a newborn from the sun’s rays, the best thing is not to expose it anyway. Before six months (and even before a year) it is niet da niet, their fragile skin will have too much trouble recovering. It’s much finer than adults, and its pigment system isn’t mature yet, so stay in the shade, it’s good for everyone (even tall people, eh).

When temperatures rise, avoid leaving the house between 11am and 4pm hours, when the mercury panics, and outside these hours, schedule a Hat with wide edges and sunglasses CE compliant with category 4 lenses. Let’s drop the H&M heart-shaped glasses with smoked lenses, it’s fun for pictures, but it doesn’t protect your little Jean-Philibert’s eyes at all.

As for clothes, when it’s hot, contrary to what one might think, it’s better to cover your skin. Not with the turtleneck eh, let’s not be stupid either, but with light and loose clothing and that will cover the skin letting it breathe. Do not forget : cotton is your best friend.

If the heir is more than a year old, you can spread it with Sunscreen before saying goodbye to the sun. To choose it, it is necessary to prefer, if possible, those with a mineral filter without nanoparticles, index 50pediatric category and eco-label.

Do not hesitate to spread generous layers on the skin, and above all to renew the action every two hours.

Warmth and infant, the gestures to know

If you’ve decided to spend your days in the shade, but it’s still very hot, here are a few things to know so your precious root ball doesn’t dry out like a prune:

  • Give him water regularly. If he’s already started diversifying, you can give him sips of water to drink between meals. If you are breastfed, do not hesitate to peel the nipple more often, breast milk is moisturizing.
  • Plan A nebulizer and sprinkle it from time to time, to cool down his body temperature
  • If he takes a nap in his stroller, especially do not cover it with a napkin. The heat will only increase in power, like an electric oven.
  • Try to do Air currentsso that it circulates
  • If the temperature is really too high, you can use an enthusiastbut without pointing it directly at the child.

Come on, let’s get ready, it’s just the beginning of summer, and the heatwaves haven’t arrived yet.
