‘Waster of Time’, ‘Poor’ Visual Effects… Oh No, Bad Reviews of Indiana Jones 5 Are Scary

The day after its screening at the Cannes Film Festival, here’s a quick roundup of early reviews of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate… While we’re always eager to see it, we also have something to worry about.

Thursday 18 May will remain a significant date in the saga Indiana Jones : that day, those who were present in Cannes were able to discover the latest chapter of the cult saga, entitled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

At the peak of his 80s, Harrison Ford walked up the steps as the speakers played the iconic music of John Williams. We can imagine how strong the emotion must have been, especially as shortly before the screening of the film, the actor received an honorary Palme d’Or to his great surprise. Visibly moved, he confided that he was “deeply touched by this distinction”received from the hands of the general delegate of the Festival, Thierry Frémaux.

An “incomprehensible” lack of visual quality given the budget

Who says the preview screening says the first fallout from the press. Gold, Indie seems far from unanimous. And for good reason, this fifth and final work has the distinction of being the only one not directed by Steven Spielberg, but by James Mangold, known for his films Le Mans 66 OR walk the line.

Another peculiarity: the film does not go all out with regard to visual effects. The trailer and synopsis have told us that some of the story takes place in 1944 where Harrison Ford appears rejuvenated with special effects. Unfortunately, these have not been unanimous. In the columns of Pointwe come to marvel at their “mediocrity”, given the colossal budget of the film:

“We rub our eyes in front of the mediocrity some obviously artificial visual effects and digital backgrounds. With a stated budget of almost 300 million dollars […], why doesn’t the result look better? incomprehensible »

“ISome relics are best left where they are”

If the criticisms may seem harsh, they turn out to be almost contrasting with those of our brothers and sisters English speaking people. For the critic ofIndieWirethe film proves that it would have been better to leave the “relics” of Indiana Jones where they were:

Not just Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate an almost total waste of timebut it’s also a laborious reminder that certain relics are best left where they are. If only previous entries in this series would have taken the time to point that out.

Same story for variety : according to the American media, this fifth opus tries to play on the vein of nostalgia without ever being able to recreate “the thrill” which makes all the charm of Indiana Jones directed by Steven Spielberg.

Likewise, a Vanity Fairit is estimated thatIndiana Jones 5 “Doesn’t do justice to his characters”. The job of the writers would be “Perfect for a standalone adventure film starring another character, but it’s not crazyYou“.

However, nothing is lost – the most important thing is to forge your own own opinion. The appointment is therefore fixed in the dark rooms at no June 28!
