Nicolas Cage landed the lead role in the psychological thriller The surferwhich comes from director Lorcan Finnegan (Vivarium, Nocebo) and screenwriter Thomas Martin. The story of the film will see Cage find himself fighting a gang of surfers.
In The Surfer, “when a man (Cage) returns to his beachfront hometown in Australia, many years after building a life in the United States, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers who claim narrow ownership on the secluded beach of his childhood. Wounded, “The Surfer” decides to stay on the beach, declaring war on whoever controls the bay. But as the conflict escalates, the stakes spiral out of control, pushing ‘The Surfer’ to the edge of his sanity.”
It looks like he’s going to do well, and I can’t wait to see Cage in this role! This is going to be another big project for the actor and this is a character he will enjoy digging into!
Executive Producer Sam Hall said, “We are incredibly excited to be working with Lorcan, Thomas, Arenamedia and Tea Shop on such a visceral and unique thriller. Nicolas Cage is the perfect actor for this iconic role and will no doubt deliver a tour de force that is sure to be something very special and captivate audiences worldwide.”
Principal photography is on The surfer expected to start in September 2023 in Australia.
