Godzilla is about to step back into the spotlight once again, and this time Japan is bringing the heat. While Legendary’s MonsterVerse keeps the King of the Monsters alive in the West, Toho continues to celebrate the legacy of the kaiju in his homeland.
The next big step in this celebration will come at this year’s Godzilla Fest 2025, where fans will encounter a brand new version of the legendary beast called “Burning Millennium Godzilla.”
The annual event, taking place on November 3 in Tokyo, will debut a new short film introducing this fiery new take on the kaiju icon.
According to the official Godzilla Fest description, “The all-new special effects film series ‘Fes Godzilla’ has become a regular feature of Godzilla Fest. This series, which concluded with great success at last year’s ‘Godzilla Fest 2024’, is now relaunched with a new look!
“Director Nakagawa Kazuhiro will continue to direct this latest film and actor Suzuki Fukuknown for his love of special effects films, has been confirmed!”
This new version of Godzilla, complete with a flaming chest designed to increase his power, marks an exciting evolution for the creature. Even though it’s a short film, Toho doesn’t treat it like a small project.
The studio is putting a lot of passion and production value into this year’s film, and it looks like the creative team is ready to make something epic for longtime fans.
Fuku Suzukiwho will star in the short film, shared his excitement about joining Godzilla’s legacy, saying, “After seeing Godzilla minus one at the movies, I developed a strong desire to one day appear in a Godzilla film.
“I was happy to get involved with Godzilla through this short film and see Godzilla’s costume and miniature set! As a fan of special effects, I was also excited about this new challenge in special effects! I could see the footage shot on set and was very excited by its power. I hope ‘Godzilla Fest 2025’ will be the best time for everyone!”
The “Fes Godzilla” shorts have become a fan-favorite part of the annual Godzilla Fest celebrations, offering unique and creative spins on the monster without being tied to a specific timeline.
As Shin Godzilla, Godzilla minus oneand Legendary’s MonsterVerse version, this new “Burning Millennium Godzilla” will likely exist in its own continuity, as a new chapter in the ever-expanding kaiju mythology.
While fans in North America wait Godzilla x Kong: Supernova to hit theaters in 2027, Godzilla Fest 2025 makes sure the King of the Monsters remains active and evolving.
If the first look is any indication, “Burning Millennium Godzilla” may be one of the most visually stunning versions of the creature, and proof that Toho still knows how to make the lizard king feel truly larger than life.
