Carrie Budoff Brown is expanding her role at NBC News, leading the network’s politics and elections while overseeing Meet the press with Chuck Todd.
Budoff Brown is appointed senior vice president of politics. She joined the network in 2021 as Senior Vice President of Meet the presswho served as editor of Politico.
In a note to staff, NBC News editor-in-chief Rebecca Blumenstein wrote that Budoff Brown’s new role “is a natural extension of her accomplished leadership since his arrival. In addition to expanding the Meet the press Franchise last year she launched an election coverage strategy unique to all television news — targeting key states and communities early and encouraging teams to prioritize reports on voter attitudes toward “horse races.” Their strategy has resulted in greater coverage, more information and key interviews, higher ratings across all platforms and tight integration of our digital and broadcast businesses.”
Budoff Brown will continue to report to Blumenstein. She will work with Tom Namako, editor-in-chief of NBC News Digital. Liz Johnstone, senior policy editor at NBC News Digital, will report to Budoff Brown and Namako.

Since arriving, I’ve been amazed by our Washington office and the journalism it produces every day. Over the past few months, we’ve been leading coverage of China’s ballooning history, the 2024 midterms and the unfolding race, and the new congressional session. Today, we’re building on those achievements by announcing a well-deserved promotion to leadership that will help us on our journey to integrate our digital and broadcast platforms.
I am happy to inform you about this Carrie Budoff Brownwho expertly oversaw our midterm coverage last year and works closely with our many newsrooms and platforms, will expand her responsibilities as Senior Vice President for Policy, at NBC News.
