Domestic violence: “specialised centres” to better protect victims?

On Monday 6 March, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced the establishment of “specialised hubs” in domestic violence within the courts, in order to “respond locally” to the plight of female victims.

On the set of ” C to you » (France 5), the Prime Minister detailed this project: “We will set up specialized centers in each court to be able to better address this domestic violence, to also be able to respond globally to the difficulties encountered by women victims of violence”before specifying that it will not be a question of specialized jurisdictions, as provided for by a law voted in the Assembly last December, at the instigation of the Republicans, and against the opinion of the government.

The announcement comes as the minister receives the first conclusions of a parliamentary mission that should end at the end of March.

200 centers created

In total, around 200 poles will be created within the country’s 164 judicial courts and 36 appellate courts. They will deal with cases of domestic violence in both civil and criminal matters, with a single file and dedicated hearings.

“Among the magistrates who will be hired, additional resources could be allocated to these poles”added Elisabeth Borne, without further details.

To keep abusive spouses away, the government also intends to shorten the deadlines for immediate protection orders: these can be issued by the judge. “in 24 hours” AND “without contradiction if we think that a woman is really in danger”added Elisabeth Borne.
