There was some confusion in the UK this weekend when viewers waiting for a long-awaited documentary on Disney+ found they couldn’t see it.
Popular reality TV star and podcaster Spencer Matthews has been making the rounds all week promoting the release of his documentary finds Michaelpremiered Friday, March 3 on Disney+.
The documentary follows Matthews as he tries to recover the body of his late older brother Michael on Mount Everest, where he disappeared in 1999 after becoming the youngest British climber to climb.
But viewers who wanted to follow the story found they couldn’t watch the documentary on the Disney+ app, and Matthews later took to Instagram to say the debut date had been pushed back for no reason:
“Apologies to everyone trying to watch finds Michael on Disney+. The debut date has been pushed back and we will let you know as soon as we have the timing.”
Fans are upset about the delay of the premiere date, not least because Disney has been very effective at hiding the film’s resolution – no critics or fans who have already seen the documentary revealed whether Michael’s body was discovered and successfully brought home is not.
Michael Matthews went missing in May 1999. He climbed Everest and became the youngest ever British mountaineer. Spencer was 10 years old when his brother went missing, and as recently as 2017, when a stranger forwarded a photo of Everest — including a blurry image of a body wearing the same color top usually worn by Michael being carried – , Spencer investigated. The reason. Possibility to follow the same ground yourself.
In fact, Spencer Matthews spent the full six weeks of his time on the mountain at base camp, and the film features both his experiences today and footage of his brother Michael during his final days more than two decades ago.
