Benedict Cumberbatch will direct the Netflix EP Eric, He plays a puppeteer whose son goes missing in 1980s Manhattan.
Netflix has cast the show written by Abi Morgan Chernobyl Producer Sister and names like Gaby Hoffman, McKinley Belcher II, Dan Fogler and Phoebe Nicholls star alongside Cumberbatch. The cast is Clarke Peters, Ivan Morris Howe, David Denman, Bamar Kane, Adepero Odyue, Alexis Molnar and Roberta Colindrez.
The six-part film follows Vincent Anderson (Cumberbatch), a grieving puppeteer in a giant TV show whose little boy has disappeared and who finds solace in his friendship with Eric, the monster who lives under his son’s bed. The divorce Screenwriter Morgan’s Little Chick co-produces Sister and Morgan EP alongside Cumberbatch, Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke and Lucy Forbes.
“Eric is a dark and crazy journey into the heart of 1980s New York and the good, bad and ugly world of Vincent,” said Morgan. “The opportunity to work with Benedict and the creative team at Sister and Netflix is irresistible.”
Eric on a five-strong Netflix UK drama list from British screenwriter Anne Mensah, who also unveiled the superhero drama Super cell and a TV adaptation of David Nicholls’ Once.
Cumberbatch also stars in Netflix’s self-titled Wes Anderson/Roald Dahl film, which was released earlier this year.
