Backstreet Boys frontman Nick Carter, accused of rape, counter-sued for defamation and blackmail

Backstreet Boys frontman Nick Carter is suing his rapists, claiming he was the victim of blackmail and defamation.

Page Six has accessed a counterclaim by the 43-year-old Backstreet Boys frontman against Shannon Ruth and Melissa Schumann alleging that she staged women’s sexual harassment allegations for monetary gain.

However, Ruth’s attorney, Mark J. Boskovich, responded privately to the broadcast: “Given his long history of harassing women, why can one trust Nick Carter? The jury will consider the evidence and make a decision.”

In her counterclaim, Carter alleges that Ruth and Schumann were involved in a “five-year conspiracy” to “harass, defame and extort” during the #MeToo movement, which began with an “immoral” entry on the singer’s blog.

Carter alleges that Shuman and her father, Jerome Shuman, later “trained and coached the vulnerable and highly impressionable” autistic Ruth to “scam” her initial allegations of third-party abuse and instead accuse her.

The soloist states that he has not been tried for any of the alleged crimes. “Carter did not offer a settlement and refused to negotiate with Schuman or Ruth, even if they specifically asked for a penny,” his lawyers also say in the counterclaim.

They further claim that “Shuman, Ruth and Jerome have snowballed their smear campaign, accusing Carter and others of ‘covering up’ and ‘victim abuse’.”

Carter also accuses Schuman and Ruth of capturing his brother Aaron Carter, who is believed to have died of a drug overdose in November 2022: “Shuman, Jerome and Ruth took advantage of Aaron’s frail situation and family stress to give credence to their smear campaign, their senseless stories. relentlessly and repeatedly using Aaron to try to justify it,” Nick says.

Nick’s lawyer, Michael Holtz, commented to Page Six: “As detailed in our counterclaim, Nick was the target of a malicious and ongoing conspiracy. He never committed the ugly acts of which he was accused; in fact, he is the victim of a calculated and concerted disinformation campaign aimed at destroying his reputation. He looks forward to telling the truth, clearing himself in court, and putting an end to slander and extortion forever.”

Recall that in December 2022, Ruth, a patient with autism and cerebral palsy, and her lawyers held a press conference in which they accused Carter of raping her on a tour bus in 2001 when she was 17. Immediately after these allegations, Nick maintained his innocence, arguing that the statement was “legally baseless and completely untrue”. This isn’t the first time the musician has been accused of sexual harassment. She also denied the rape allegations of singer Melissa Schuman in 2017.
