Ryan Reynolds watched the celebrations in North Wales as his Wrexham AFC football team nearly pulled off a shock victory in a thrilling FA Cup match between David and Goliath on Sunday afternoon.
Wrexham drew 3-3 with Sheffield United, three leagues above Wrexham, who play in the semi-professional National League.
The match was broadcast on BBC in the UK and ESPN in the US, which is rare for a football match without popular Premier League teams such as Chelsea or Manchester United.
the Dead pool Star was in the crowd at the racecourse ground in Wrexham and was seen celebrating enthusiastically with the fans as his side scored twice in the second half to take the lead against Sheffield United.
Wrexham striker Paul Mullin scored a third goal in the 86th minute which looked set to seal a historic victory for Wrexham until Sheffield United’s John Egan leveled late on. The game will enter a replay that will be played at a later time.
Elsewhere during the game, Reynolds attracted the attention of fans and TV cameras when he called fellow actor and Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney on his mobile phone during the game. Images of McElhenney calling Reynolds’ phone were widely shared on social media.

Before the game, Reynolds made a guest appearance on the BBC’s pre-match show, hosted by Gary Lineker, where he discussed his long-term goal of owning Wrexham AFC.
“10 years from now the plan is and will always be the Premier League,” said Reynolds. “If it is theoretically possible to be promoted from the fifth tier to the Premier League, why not try?”
He added: “No one has ever done anything big in this world and thought, you know what, let’s go halfway, so let’s go all the way, and we believe we can do it. Call us crazy, but it is what we want to do.”
Reynolds and McElhenney completed their acquisition of Wrexham in February 2021. The pair has since been the subject of an FX documentary titled Welcome to Wrexhamwho recorded their purchase of the club.
