EXCLUSIVE: Range Media Partners has signed Jarreau Carrillo, the actor and filmmaker, for his new short film The holiday drew a lot of attention at Sundance 2023.
Carrillo wrote, directed and starred in the film, which follows a black man trying to go on vacation. It was intended as a proof of concept for his first feature film, The last survivor in America, which will now help Range take off. Julius Pryor and Marttise Hill of Pryor Hill Productions committed to producing.
“I am very humbled and grateful to have Range’s support of my feature film debut, THE LAST TO SURVIVE IN AMERICA,” Carrillo told Deadline. “At this point in my career, it is powerful and exciting to work with a team of experienced industry leaders.”
Originally from Seattle, Carrillo is of Filipino and African-American descent. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and holds an MFA in directing from NYU Tisch. his graduation film, Strange planetwas funded by NYU’s Spike Lee Production Fund and won Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award.
As an actor, Carrillo appeared in comedies with Bridey Elliott Fort Tildenof find a party Creators Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss, who won SXSW’s 2014 Narrative Feature Grand Jury Award.
Range Media Partners is a management and production company established in September 2020 that also recently signed Rachel Lambert – the director behind the bubbly Daisy Ridley vehicle Sometimes I think about dying, which opened this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The project fell into the American Dramatic Competition and is currently being reviewed by several buyers.
