Love, passion and a little bit of book magic – which Russians say helps them believe in miracles and seek relationships in real life.
Liters and dating app Mamba came to this conclusion after conducting a joint study. According to the survey, 70% of participants admitted that romantic scenes in books inspired them to find love. Women mostly choose stories that include emotions and emotional closeness: 61% of those surveyed prefer books with a love line. Men turned out to be a little more restrained – only half believe that romance makes work more interesting.
Women’s favorite romantic scene was the declaration of love between Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester from Charlotte Bronte’s novel of the same name. In second place was the dance of Natasha Rostova and Andrei Bolkonsky, and in third place was the first meeting of the Master and Margarita. On the contrary, men remembered the Bulgakov incident more often – 22% admitted that it seemed to them the most fateful.
Interestingly, women often value the “romance of everyday life” – care, attention and small signs of love. Men mostly choose scenes that involve passion and physical intimacy. But they both agree on one thing: joint trials bring the heroes together no less than kisses under the moon.
According to survey participants, reading romantic scenes generally improves their mood and makes them want to “call and embrace the person they love.” Nearly three-quarters of the men and women surveyed said they dream of having a literary moment in real life one day.
By the way, we have previously written a selection of books that have a dark academy aesthetic and are addictive from the first line. If this sounds like you, check out the list here.
