There are never too many bags – something like this, we always relieve ourselves after buying another fashion model. And something tells us we are not alone. Every self-respecting fashionista’s collection has accessories for all occasions (from being on top and on the dance floor in a club, a business meeting, and a vegetable market).

In general, a bag is no longer just an accessory. This is an indicator of status and good taste. And with the advent of the era of social networks, they have become the main object of desire for all urban fashionistas. What else is there to brag about to subscribers, right?

However, in the hardcore fashion industry, not only practice (read: the ability to style things) matters, but theory as well. Therefore, today we decided to conduct a fashion education program and tell you about the most popular types of bags. Shall we begin?

To carry

Bag Askent

Tote is the same bag that can easily fit your whole life and even more. It is distinguished by its impressive size, rectangular shape and short handles. As a rule, bags are worn on the shoulder, but there are models with additional long straps that allow you to carry the bag over your shoulder. By the way, the first models of this accessory appeared about a hundred years ago, when women used them to go to the grocery store.

cross body

Crossbody suits come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but all models can be worn over the shoulder. At the end of the 19th century, every postman had such a bag, and a few decades later, Coco Chanel took the crossbody to a new level. It was she who recommended that women wear long chain bags, eliminating the need to always keep the accessory in one hand or under the seat.

rascal

hobo central nervous system

Remember, a hobo is always composed of soft shapes, a semicircular top and a single solid handle. By the way, literally the name of this model is translated as “bum bag”. And because for many it looks like a bag that the poor tie to a stick. Years later, hoboes literally monopolized the hippies. Now, the crescent-shaped model appears in the collections of luxury brands.

shopper

Shopper Sporty and Rich

Shopper literally translates as a shopping bag, so they do not have zippers or buckles. Most often, such a model is made of footer or canvas, but now there are options from eco-leather, vinyl and suede.

reporter

MSS messenger

We are sure that among many representatives of generation Z, the word “messenger” is associated only with communication applications. However, they searched postman bags before. As a rule, such models have a long hanger (to pass over the shoulder) and several compartments inside.

saddle

fetish bag

Distinctive features of this model are the soft round shape of the sole, its rigid frame and long strap. The name of the bag – the saddle – was received for a reason. Previously, it was an indispensable attribute of every driver. The accessory was attached to a horse saddle and carried documents and maps of the region. In the fashion world, this model appeared relatively recently – in 1999. And all thanks to John Galliano, who was Dior’s creative director at the time. Introduced the now iconic saddle bag in the SS2000 collection.

Pouch

pouch askent

A pouch is a small bag-shaped bag that is tightened with a drawstring. And here’s an interesting fact: previously, tobacco was tucked into pouches and tied to a belt for convenience. But those days are gone and the accessory has a new use. By the way, many people confuse this model with the bucket bag, but in the next paragraph we will explain what the difference is.

It’s easy to guess that this bag got its name from its bucket-like shape. Such models (as opposed to the pouch) always have a rigid base and frame walls, thanks to which the accessory retains its shape.

Drumstick

Pov: You’re a Parisian and you walked into a bakery late in the morning to buy a baguette. Where will you put it? Of course, under the mouse! At least the name of the next bag on our list hints at that. The baguette has a flat shape and a short handle, so it is very convenient to carry it on the shoulder. In the 2000s, such bags were especially relevant – all thanks to Carrie Bradshaw, who often paraded the iconic Fendi model on the streets of New York.
