Catalina Sopelana (Madrid, 1992) discovered his true calling when he ended a relationship in the last year of his studies. We have been able to see it for some time now who will sing for youfilm directed by Carlos Vermut, The laws of the border, The neighbour or The Immortal. He also stars in the third and final season of Red skythe popular Netflix series that just premiered.
You studied psychology.
Yes, I wanted to be a psychologist. For me it was something very professional. I enjoyed the training, I got very good grades, I thought this was what I wanted. Of course I have always loved cinema, since I was very small. He had done theater at school and done some commercials. The last year of college, I enrolled in amateur theater classes because I was leaving a long-term relationship and wanted to do things for myself. I realized this was my true calling. I finished my studies and started training as an actress. I combined it with the Masters in Psychology to have a plan B. In the end, the psychology thing got parked on a professional level, and on a personal level, it has been, in general, for life and for the profession, a help. I think it’s an advantage.
Do you remember your first casting?
It was when I was very little. I taught dance and my teacher ran a modeling and acting agency. It was before Paco’s men, because a character that never materialized would become Sara’s sister. I went with my mother without having any idea about the industry. I had a great time, no pressure. It was an experience.
Has the neighbor changed your life?
When they took me away, everyone told me that my life would change a lot. I’m kind of a pessimist or a realist and I knew this role wasn’t going to land me a job forever. I think it ended up being a mix of both. On a personal level it was incredible, I learned a lot. In fact, it has been the project where I have learned the most. On a professional level, people who are huge fans of the series continue to approach me to this day, but it has not changed my life, although I am very happy with the result.
What happened to it the blue star?
I have very good news because filming has resumed. When I was shooting the film in Zaragoza and they were going to lock us up, I had to return to Madrid by train at full speed because of the state of alarm. It was a shame, because the director, Javier Macipe, had long tried to release the film. In fact, it’s been one of the most special shoots I’ve experienced… In 2020 it had to stop and it was very difficult to get going again. It was difficult, but this year I will ride what I need, so I am very happy. It is a beautiful and very special film. The good things keep you waiting.
What is the project that touched you the most?
I think almost everyone has something special. I have a lot of affection for it The neighbour because while filming I learned a lot about what I did and didn’t want in this business. It was a start. the blue starwith all its complexity, will also be one of the most important projects of my life.
now the movie model 77 has 16 nominations at the Goya Awards. What do you feel?
I am very happy, this film has also been very special to me and has brought me many beautiful things. I love being part of this project. The collaboration with Alberto Rodríguez was incredible.
Now we can see you inside too Red sky.
Yes, the final season has just been released. I’m very excited. It’s a very special series, it’s crazy [risas]. without doing spoilersI can see the girls trying to live quietly and with lots of money, which is when my character, Greta, comes into their lives.
Do you think social networks have changed the way you work?
What I use the most is Instagram and I must say I always try to stay true to what I want to publish. I don’t have many followers, but I keep adding content that I’d like to share with others. I know what I should upload to get more followers, but I’m not interested. I think in my work the number of followers and Loves It matters a lot in certain cases. In fact, once after one casting they asked me how much followers I had… But for the cinema that I want to make, no director has ever asked me.
What are you working on now?
I just shot a movie with Julio Medem and I have the second season of The Immortal, the series Movistar+ about the band that monopolized hundreds of covers and television programs: the Miami. I also have another series that I’m really excited about, but I can’t reveal more details right now.
