Chris Shaw, Editor-in-Chief of ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 News Operator ITN, is leaving the company after four decades.
Shaw has held his current position for the past five years, during which he has worked closely with the company’s CEOs on strategy and oversight Harry: The interview and The Queen’s Green Planet with Sir David Attenborough.
ITN CEO Rachel Corp acknowledges “one of the most talented editorial minds ever to work for ITN”.
“It is difficult to imagine someone who has had such an impact on the company,” she added. “Under his leadership, the ITN divisions pioneered and implemented breakthrough ideas and programs that won several awards and distinctions.”
Shaw, who is leaving in March to “dedicate himself to other media interests and artistic challenges,” said: “I’ve enjoyed a career full of great stories and experiences. I don’t think any other production company can match the variety and quality of content what we can do here.”
Shaw joined the team in 1985 to work at ITV News and briefly left to help launch Sky News before returning as editor for Channel 4 News Home and Foreign News.
Before being appointed to launch Channel 5 News in 1998, he held a number of other positions and was subsequently appointed by Channel 5 as News, Current Affairs and Documentary Editor.
He returned to ITN again in 2010 to run ITN Productions which grew tremendously under his tenure and was promoted to his current position in 2018.
Shaw’s departure is the second major blow to ITN in recent months, as former chief executive Deborah Turnes recently joined BBC News to head up the department.
