Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr and NBA star Stephen Curry were the latest entertainment and sports stars to appear at the daily White House briefing, this time to make brief remarks about gun violence prevention and the recent release from Brittney Griner.
The team visited the White House on Tuesday to celebrate the 2022 NBA Championship.
Kerr said he also attended a roundtable discussion on gun violence and gun safety with senior White House staffers Klay Thompson and Moses Moody.
“We learned a lot about what this administration is doing to create a safer environment in our country. It’s something I really care about,” Kerr said.
Curry also thanked Biden and his associates for helping secure Griner’s release last month as part of a prisoner swap with the Russian government. “It means a lot to know that she’s here and safe at home with the family, and all the work that went into making it happen behind the scenes,” Curry said.
Kerr and Curry are just the latest celebrities to be invited by the Biden White House to speak at a briefing. Cyndi Lauper spoke before a signing ceremony for the Respect for Marriage Act, Matthew McConaughey urged lawmakers to pass gun safety measures, and BTS apparently spoke about an increase in anti-Asian hate crimes.
