In Argentina, a woman has been accused of cutting off her trumpet-playing husband’s penis and leaving a knife in the dead man’s eyeball.

Florencia Amado Cattaneo (41) has now been arrested by the police for the gruesome alleged murder and has been referred for a psychiatric evaluation.

The body of the victim Pedro Federico Zarate was apparently found with the knife in his eye and mutilated genitalia at the couple’s home in Altos de San Lorenzo.

Cattaneo – a psychologist – was arrested on January 11 after fleeing to her mother’s house “with blood stains on her hands” in a taxi, her sister Patricia told local media.

The body of her 50-year-old husband was found by his sister-in-law on the bed in the apartment he shared with his wife and five-year-old son.

According to local media, he had stab wounds all over his body, including his chest, and his genitals were mutilated.

Amado Cattaneo has been admitted to the psychiatric ward of a medical center in La Plata, where she will undergo tests. If she is declared mentally incompetent, she will not stand trial, investigators and prosecutors say.

Footage from the police station as Cattaneo arrived showed her being helped by officers with a grin, local reports said.

Local news reported that despite being taken to the train station on a warm evening, she was wearing a coat over her dress.

Citing neighbors, local reports said the couple have a five-year-old son and have been together for more than a decade.

Cattaneo has been employed by the General Directorate of Culture and Education of the province of Buenos Aires since 2012.
