Directed by Jamie Payne from a script by series creator Neil Cross. The film is billed as a follow-up and reinvention of the BBC series that cemented Elba’s status as a leading man and earned 11 Emmy nominations during its run.
The plot: An evil serial killer terrorizes London while the brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther is behind bars. Tormented by his failure to catch the cyber-psychopath who is now taunting him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.
Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley (returning as Martin Schenk) star in the film, which began production in November 2021.
Netflix is producing the film in association with the BBC. Cross and Elba are producers along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready for Chernin Entertainment. Dan Finlay is Executive Producer of Chernin Entertainment along with Brendan Ferguson, Miki Emmerich, Kris Thykier and Priscilla Parish.
