EXCLUSIVE: Peter Capaldi, the first Doctor who Star, will direct a comedy-drama pilot for Sky Studios about a mother who adopts five children.

The unaired pilot will begin filming early next year and was produced by STV Studios-backed company Tod Productions vera Producer Elaine Collins and Sky Studios. The project was originally developed for the BBC.

Eccleshare, who collaborated with Tod and Capaldi on their upcoming Apple TV+ series criminal record, said the Sky Studios project was a “fun, honest and snarky” approach to parenting. Naish adopted five children and But he looks so normal is a self-proclaimed guide to parenting.

“She’s kind of the best mom in the world and the worst mom in the world,” Eccleshare said. “She will leave her children by the wayside to find their own way home, but she will also support them in their rather extreme difficulties.”

While Sky Studios has yet to commit to a full series, Eccleshare said it has been hired to write two more half-hour episodes. Executive producers are Collins and Anil Gupta, head of comedy at Sky Studios. Katie Churchill is the producer.

Capaldi is better known as an actor, but in the past has mainly directed work, the BAFTA-winning BBC health comedy. He is married to Collin.

Sky Studios is increasing the number of pilots it produces to find hits to follow Chernobyl and Gangs of London.

Eccleshare is developing a second series with the title for Sky shame. He said it was a “rush hour for the 21st Century” about the unlikely crime-fighting duo of a Hasidic Jew who is a member of the Shomrim neighborhood watch group in North London and a black female Metropolitan Police officer.

“They both act against their communities to keep this extraordinarily odd crime-fighting couple in aggravation,” Eccleshare said.

He wrote the screenplay with his friend Tom Joseph. The project is presented by Monumental Television, the whores Produced by Alison Owen and Debra Hayward.
