America Suffers BBL Epidemic: Doctors Warn Against ‘Deadliest Kind’ of Plastic Surgery as Number of Surgeries Performed Increases by a Third in a Year

Doctors warn that the popular trend to undergo a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) can be deadly – especially when women travel abroad for a cheaper procedure.

Celebrities like rapper Cardi B have had the famous surgery where a person moves fat from their stomach to their hips and buttocks to create an hourglass shape.

More than 61,000 buttock implants were placed in the United States in 2021, a 37 percent increase from the previous year. These figures do not include the many women who travel overseas to get a BBL at a lower rate.

It is known as the riskiest cosmetic procedure a person can undergo, with one in 3,000 patients dying from complications. These problems can appear at any time, and some may not appear until years later.

Cardi B recently announced that she had 95 percent of her implants removed due to concerns about her long-term health, and warned fans not to undergo the procedure.

“This is an epidemic that is only going to get worse as social media becomes more popular,” said dr. Tansar Mir, a New York plastic surgeon, told ABC.

These procedures are already dangerous when performed by the right, licensed doctors in the US.

Known risks include fat embolization, where fat from the injection enters the bloodstream and travels to the lungs or heart.

Women can also get a seroma, in which fluid collects under the site of a surgical incision and can become infected.

Dr. Roxanne Grave, who together with dr. Roxy continued to post crazy videos dancing in her gown, was accused of live-streaming surgeries and focusing on the camera rather than patient care.

The risk of suffering from these problems only increases if you look for cheaper options in less developed countries.

Improper hygiene can increase the risk of infection, and poorly trained or uncertified doctors are more likely to make mistakes that increase the risk of complications.

Even when done correctly, recovery from a BBL can take months, and a woman should avoid sitting and sleeping on her side.

Many people opt for blunt silicone implants, which have the same hourglass shape, but can pose even more dangers.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that these injectable silicone procedures can lead to serious complications or death.

Taryn Quinterri, from Arizona, told ABC she was one of the women who chose these synthetic implants for her BBL.

After six months, she developed a rash on her bottom. As soon as the first symptoms erupted, her fear of long-term complications grew, she said.

Dr. Mir warned that these problems develop as an autoimmune reaction, where the body recognizes the silicone as a foreign substance and attacks it.

Other symptoms include fatigue, back pain, burning, itching and numbness.

In Ms. Quinterri’s case, symptoms appeared relatively quickly because Dr. Mir warns that they can sometimes erupt decades after someone gets the injections.

Mrs. Quinterri was shocked. She was afraid that the silicone would migrate to different parts of her body and kill her.

The woman even told her mother that she might not be able to take care of her in her old age as the procedure could kill her.

What is a Brazilian butt lift?

A Brazilian butt lift, or BBL as it is often called, is surgery in which a doctor moves fat from a person’s stomach and hips to their buttocks.

The goal is to create an “hourglass” body shape with thin hips and wide buttocks

Recovery from BBLs can take months and requires a woman not to sit, sleep on her side, and wear compression garments to help the healing process.

It is also a risky operation. Fat embolization, where fat enters the bloodstream and can travel to the heart or lungs

Some women also go to Latin American countries or Turkey, where they can have cheap surgery

This increases the risk of complications – leading to some notable “BBL horror stories” that have emerged in recent years

“One of the people who specializes in removing silicone injections told me what I did to my body was worse than cancer,” she said.

She traveled to Colombia to see dr. Alexander Ramirez Folleco asks to remove some of the injected material.

Mrs. Quinterri is now saving money in hopes of getting a second BBL removal procedure in the United States.

DR Folleco said he sees about two or three Americans a week trying to reverse their BBL — as more women hope to reverse the trend’s effects on their bodies.

One of those women is Cardi B, who revealed on Instagram Live that she’s had almost all of her BBL implants removed.

“I had surgery in August and removed 95 percent of my biopolymers… if you don’t know what that is, it’s a shot. It was a very crazy process,” she said last week.

Then she warned her followers not to follow the same path as her.

“All I’m going to say is when you’re young, when you’re 19, 20, 21, and sometimes you’re too skinny, and you’re like, ‘OMG, I don’t have enough fat for that Tuck in my a* *’ To lead you to a ** shots, NOT!” warned the pen known for its curves,” she continued.

“… when it comes to BBL, if you want my advice, make sure your blood work is good before you get your BBL.

“If a doctor says your blood counts are too low or you have diabetes or whatever, don’t do it.”
