Patients with pre-existing myocarditis and other conditions related to heart inflammation can safely receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, according to new research findings.
A French research team from Lyon Université Hospital, about 250 miles southeast of Paris, presented the findings at the European Society of Cardiology conference for Acute CardioVascular Care, NBC reports.
The results are awaiting peer review for publication in a medical journal.
The risk of developing cardiac inflammation following Pfizer vaccine administration, which is especially at risk for young men, is well known.
The researchers hope that these concerns will not stop people from getting the injection that has become the most popular in America and much of the Western world.
Researchers have found that people who have been hospitalized for a heart infection in the past five years can safely receive the Pfizer vaccine, despite concerns about myocarditis or pericarditis.
‘Somebody [the] “What prompted us to do this study was a patient with a previous history of myocarditis who refused the Covid vaccine for fear of recurrence.” From Abu Saleh to NBC.
The researchers collected data from 55 French patients hospitalized for heart inflammation in the past five years.
Each had also received the COVID-19 vaccine at some point since it became available in 2020. Almost all of them had received the Pfizer vaccine.
None of the study participants developed a recurrent heart infection after receiving the vaccine.
Myocarditis or pericarditis, the two types of heart inflammation most commonly associated with vaccines, are both relatively mild conditions.
It usually goes away on its own after a few days of rest and with limited medical attention.
However, experts still advise people to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms.
They can be fatal if a person suffering from these conditions engages in strenuous physical activity.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned that young men who received injections of Pfizer or Moderna Covid in June are at risk of developing the condition.

The CDC warns that those who receive mRNA vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna injections, especially young people, are at risk of developing myocarditis. However, the risk of the condition is much higher for people who are infected with the virus.
A study by the National Institutes of Health reveals that 70 out of every million men aged 12 to 15 years who receive Pfizer injections develop myocarditis.
For men ages 16 to 17, 105 per million develop this condition.
However, authorities still recommend giving people injections, as the risk of myocarditis from stroke is 85% lower than when infected with Covid.
Although the French study included some participants who received the Moderna injection, the sample size of the group was not large enough for the researchers to draw a strong conclusion.
However, none of the Moderna recipients in the study who had developed heart inflammation in the past experienced any problems with the vaccine.
Health officials have found that there is a slightly higher risk of heart inflammation with the Moderna injection than with Pfizer, but still significantly lower than the risks from the virus itself.
