Hancock says he doesn’t want UK Covid scientists to partner with US if Trump supplies STOLE

Matt Hancock said he convinced scientists today to abandon a deal to make a Covid vaccine in the US because he feared Donald Trump would steal them.

The former health secretary said he feared the then US president and that his “America first” policy would prevent the vaccine developed by Oxford University from leaving the country.

At that time, in 2020, the Oxford team developed the promising injection, but they needed a pharmaceutical company to manage production and production.

Finally, the Oxford government-backed group entered into a deal with the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca for England and the Netherlands.

Mr Hancock said, “If they… [Oxford] had to work with a large manufacturer. All this happening offshore in the United States made me feel uncomfortable.

“It turns out I should be worried about the EU,” Hancock added, referring to a geopolitical dispute with AstraZeneca’s dose blockade.

He made the comments during a radio interview with HealthTech Hour. It came after he announced last month that he had published a book about his experiences during Covid.

The AstraZeneca coup, which has since given nearly 25 million Britons, has been criticized by some EU leaders over concerns about blood clots.

Brussels has even blocked shipments of hundreds of thousands of doses of AstraZeneca to Australia, following a dispute over deadlines for vaccine delivery to the continent.

The UK, like many other countries in Europe, does not currently offer the AZ vaccine to people under the age of 40 after being linked to bleeding disorders in 2021.

The latest interview with Mr Hancock, who was forced to step down from his post as health minister last year after it was revealed he was having an affair with a married caregiver who broke social distancing rules.

Last month, he announced that he was writing a book about his time in government during the pandemic.

Mr Hancock has also been criticized for other aspects of his approach to the crisis, such as telling young people to “don’t kill grandma” as part of social distancing measures and not fencing off nursing homes.

Mr Hancock said he feared the Oxford-US partnership would give President Donald Trump a chance to shoot British shots for the Americans.

Other issues discussed by the MP in an interview with Health Hour include the claim that the UK is never ending PPE and how she wants her role in the pandemic to be remembered.

“I hope people understand that we made the best decisions under difficult circumstances in a fog of uncertainty,” he said.

The UK’s track record of purchasing personal protective equipment during the pandemic has also been criticized, as a new NHS hospital it can afford, after it was revealed that around half a billion pounds had been spent on unnecessary equipment at the start of the pandemic.

Ministry of Health officials admitted last month that £461 million from taxpayers had been blown into masks, gowns and gloves to protect healthcare personnel and patients, who were found to be unsuitable for use.

Ministers spent £14.8 billion on maintaining personal protective equipment in the first year of Covid, according to annual accounts by the Ministry of Health. However, around £8.7 billion was deleted because it was either unusable or expired.

The former minister reported that, contrary to the experience of some NHS staff, PPE in the UK was not over and some were instead using recycled garbage bags at the height of the pandemic.
