James Gunn Responds To ‘Brash And Unkind’ DC Trolls, Saying: ‘Disrespectful Protests Will Never, Ever Influence Our Actions’

When DC Studios head James Gunn announced he was going to write a new Superman movie and that Henry Cavill would not return to reprise his role, there were a good number of fans lashing out in frustration, despondency and anger.

Gunn knows very well how fans react to news they don’t like, and he’s gotten a lot of hate lately. But he won’t let any of that affect the way he is Peter Safran they will handle things. They have a plan that they are moving forward with and they will stick to it.

Gunn recently took Chirping to answer the fan hate he’s seeing and let all the trolls know that they won’t affect what he and his team are doing because they believe in it. He said:

“One of the things Peter and I were aware of when we took the job as heads of DC Studios was a certain minority of people online who could be, well, rowdy and rude, to say the least.

“Our choices for the DCU are based on what we believe is best for the story and best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years. Maybe these choices are great, maybe not, but they are made with true heart and integrity and always with the story in mind.

“No one likes to be harassed or insulted, but to be honest, we’ve been through much worse. Disrespectful protests will never, ever affect our actions.

“We were aware that there would be a period of turbulence as we accepted this gig, and we knew that sometimes we would have to make difficult and not-so-obvious choices, especially in the wake of the fractious nature of what has gone before.

“But that means little to us compared to our work as artists and caretakers in helping create a big and wonderful future for DC.”

I can’t actually wait to see what Gunn ends up bringing to the table! While many fans are complaining now, when we actually start to see their plan come to life, fans will most likely love what they offer.

Gunn also said that “they’re not recasting everyone except The Suicide Squad.” This statement could mean one of two things, are they rephrasing everyone, including The Suicide Squad, or are they rephrasing some characters and not others?

We know for a fact that Superman and Batman will be recast and I’m pretty sure we won’t see that Ezra Miller returns as the Flash. Also, if the rumors about Jason Momoa playing Lobo is true, so we probably won’t see him again as Aquaman after the upcoming sequel. As for Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, a third film isn’t moving forward, and if all of these other characters are being recast, why shouldn’t they be recasting her too?

We have a small vision of what Gunn is doing, but as fans, all we can do is fill in the blanks of what we think will happen based on what we know. Gunn will reveal his plan in January, so we’ll know soon enough what the future DC Cinematic Universe looks like.
