There is no doubt that the directors stirred up a lot of emotions Adil El Arbi And Billall Fallah they felt when Warner Bros. Discovery’s new CEO canceled theirs Bad girl film for a tax break. It feels like such a slap in the face to the film’s cast and crew, who starred Leslie Grace in the title role. I mean, the movie was almost done!
During a recent interview with Deadline, they opened up about what it’s been like for them. Fallah said: “It was a traumatic experience. [El Arbi and I] it went through all the emotions.” El Arbi added, “At the time, it was pretty unprecedented, so it was like the history of cinema, but in a crazy way. There was still a lot of work to do, but they just said it was a financial decision and so that’s it and the film can never be released.”
In another interview with THR, they saw the bright side of the situation, saying, “This is something that has never happened before, so we became part of cinematic history without even trying!”
They go on to share that they’ve also gotten a lot of support from other filmmakers who have reached out to them, including James Gunn, Kevin FeigeAnd Edgar Wright. Fallah explained, “There has been so much support from people in the industry. [I]”It felt like all the artists were supporting us, and it’s a great feeling, because you feel like you’re not alone.”
Fallah and El Arbi have yet to meet with James Gunn as DC Studios, but will since “meetings are in the books.” I’m assuming this meeting won’t involve reviving the canceled Batgirl project, but I’m guessing it will involve directing a future DC project, which they’ll be happy to do.
When asked if he would work with WB again, Fallah said, “Yes, we will work with them again, but on the condition that the film comes out. I mean, if Warners says, “Do you want to do the next Batman or Superman?”, obviously, we’ll say yes. As long as the movie comes out!
It’s a shame we’ll never get to see this movie, but I’m sure we’ll get a Batgirl movie someday. It just won’t be this.
