Bong Joon Ho’s new movie Mickey 17 gets release date, first look

Bong Joon Ho Mickey 17 will hit theaters worldwide on March 29, 2024, Warner Bros. Monday said. The studio has already set a date for an event film. This weekend’s opening also comes from Sony Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and an untitled event film from Universal.

Robert Pattinson stars in the title role alongside Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Minari), Naomi Ackie (I want to dance with someone), with Oscar nominee Toni Collette (heir to the throne) and Oscar-nominated Mark Ruffalo (the avenger movies).

The film is produced by Plan B Entertainment, Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company and Bong under his Offscreen, Inc. banner. The creative team behind the camera includes Oscar-nominated cinematographer Darius Khondji (Ok Evita), Oscar-nominated production designer Fiona Crombie (The favorite, Cruella), Oscar-nominated editor Jinmo Yang (parasite), costume designer Catherine George (Okay Snowpiercer) and visual effects supervisor Dan Glass (The Matrix franchising). The music was composed by composer Jae-il Jung (Parasite, squid game).

parasite shot off the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, winning the Palme d’Or and then the Oscars for Best Picture, one of four trophies there, along with Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best International Film. The picture was a revolution for a Korean title on the festival and awards circuit.

Mickey 7 was in February by St. Martin, a Macmillan imprint, published. Although the film will be inspired by the novel, sources say that its version may end up being different from that of the novel due to Bong’s previous experience with adaptations. The novel’s story follows Mickey7, who is a consumable: a disposable worker sent on a human expedition to colonize the ice world of Niflheim. When a mission becomes too dangerous – even suicidal – the crew turns to Mickey. After an iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of its memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal… and why it was the only colonial position left vacant when he accepted it.
