Hideo Kojima he recently turned 62, and while most people are thinking about retirement, the legendary game creator has made it clear that he has no plans to abandon his art. In a message to fans, Kojima thanked them for the birthday wishes and illustrations, saying:
“I plan to keep making things as long as I live.”
That makes sense coming from a developer who has been shaping the gaming world since the mid-80s. From Metal gear TO Stranded DeathKojima’s influence is undeniable and his creative momentum has not slowed.
But as time goes on, Kojima admits that he is learning to balance passion with health. He added:
“My stance on ‘creating’ is to ‘don’t work too hard’ and ‘take it easy,’ and I will continue to give it my all even into my 60s.”
This new perspective stems in part from a serious illness he faced during the pandemic. Reflecting on that period, Kojima said it made him realize “that a lot of people wanted me to make something like that Metal gear”, which directly inspired his next project Physint.
Kojima doesn’t stop at games either. His long-time dream of making a film is still on the table. According to him, this could finally happen next Physint releases, perhaps “five or six years” from now.
So while you may want to take it easy in your 60s, don’t mistake it for slowing down. Whether it’s another game or a movie, Kojima plans to continue creating for the rest of his life.
Today I turned 62. I received many birthday messages, illustrations, etc. from all over the world. A thousand thanks. I intend to continue creating things as long as I live. My position on “creation” is to “don’t work too hard” and to “take it easy”, and I will continue to… pic.twitter.com/cyQ5pjQbR6
