Jennifer Lawrence studies but doesn’t believe Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan was one of her first acting coaches

Long before Jennifer Lawrence became an Oscar winner, she was an aspiring actress laying the groundwork for a Hollywood career.

At one point, Lawrence went to an acting teacher who ultimately refused to accept her as a student because she was already outstanding. She couldn’t remember who that teacher was until Mike Fleming Jr. told her about Deadline on Saturday at a panel for her Apple/A24 film elevated road at Deadlines Contenders Film: Los Angeles event.

Towards the end of the panel, Fleming told Lawrence who he had been talking to recently yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan on his expanding universe of TV series. He also reminded Lawrence that years ago Sheridan was a struggling actor who supplemented his income by giving acting classes.

During their visit, Sheridan told Fleming his own 1883 Actress Isabel Mae reminded him of Lawrence, who Sheridan called a once-in-a-lifetime talent. He knew this, because sometime before Lawrence’s breakthrough role in 2011 winter flounderShe signed up for his acting class.

But Sheridan eventually returned the money because he said she was already so talented.

When Fleming finished retelling the story, Lawrence could only say one word.

“What?” She said.

“I remember I was visiting someone in New York and he said to my mother: ‘Here is your money back. Just don’t give her acting classes, whatever you do,’” Lawrence recalled. “Was that Taylor Sheridan?”

She later said, “I have to tell my mother.”

Sheridan-turned-writer-producer was nominated for an Oscar for writing hell or floodand currently has several prequels in the works to be spun off yellowstone, which just returned for its fifth season. The simulcast premiere on Paramount Network, CMT, Pop and TV Land averaged 15.7 million viewers, the most-watched show on all television in 2022.

Lawrence stars and made her film debut on Apple/A24s elevated roadwhich premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and debuted on Apple TV+ on November 4th.
