20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for a teen supernatural comedy titled Darby and the dead. The story follows a high school student named Darby who is also a spirit messenger, who helps spirits to transition to the next realm. Things take a strange and interesting turn for her when the most popular girl in school dies. She ends up coming to Darby as her spirit and asks her to make sure her 17th birthday party happens, even though she is dead.
After having a near-death experience as a young girl, “Darby Harper gains the ability to see the dead. As a result, she becomes withdrawn and isolated from her high school peers and she prefers to spend her time counseling lonely spirits who have unfinished business on earth. But everything changes when Capri, the queen bee of the school’s most exclusive clique, dies unexpectedly in a freak hair-straightening accident, resulting in the obvious cancellation of her upcoming “Sweet 17”. Capri, however, pleads with Darby from the other end to step in and get Capri’s friends to proceed with the party as planned. To appease the undead diva’s wrath, Darby must emerge from her self-imposed exile and reinvent herself, which along the way will allow her to find new joy in the land of the living.
The film is the protagonist Riele Downs, Auli’i Cravalho, Jacob chosen, Angel AsherAnd Wayne Knightwith Derek Luke And Toni Dance.
Darby and the dead was directed by Sila Howard with a script written by Becca Greenbased on a story by Wenonah Wilms. The film will be streamed December 2, 2022, exclusively on Hulu.
