Since it would not have been otherwise, the new Marvel Studios premiere, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, reached number 1 in the Spanish box office with a gross of €2,835,432 in the weekend of November 11-13. Disney distributed the film in 1,038 theaters where it managed to collect an average of €7,442 per theater and €2,732 per screen. It brought more than 402,000 spectators to theaters and thanks to it the total collection of the 20 most watched titles in our country exceeded 5.5 million euros, 22% more than the previous week. The news and figures are good, but they pale in comparison to the other Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero to have a movie in 2022: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” In May, this sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch opened on 1,228 screens and alone grossed €5.65m, double what the Wakandans got.

Continuing with the ranking, ‘El cuarto pasajero’ remains impassive for the third consecutive week, dropping by 13% compared to the previous weekend. Álex de la Iglesia’s film adds another 499,000 euros to a total that is already around 2.56 million. Its maintenance is amazing and remarkable. Furthermore, it is closely followed by another Spanish bet: “As bestas”. A Contracorriente distributed 190 copies of the new film by Rodrigo Sorogoyen which achieved an average taking of 2,391 euros, very close to the figure for ‘Wakanda Forever’.
Going down from first to fourth position we find ‘Black Adam’, which collects half of that of last week. Dwayne Johnson’s superhero remains at 367 thousand euros and his total after one month at the box office is 6.1 million euros. Warner Bros. is keeping the film on 376 screens (unlike “Black Panther,” this one was only released on 689, by the way). To close the Top 5 family films: ‘Lilo, my friend the crocodile’. With a drop of 10% and even with 4 weeks in theaters, Lilo adds 253,500 euros to a total of 1.86 million and will hopefully reach 2 million next week.
Last Friday six films were released in theaters and apart from ‘Black Panther’ and ‘As Bestas’, no one else managed to crack the top 10, not even the top 15. ‘Los renglones torcidos de dios’ drops one position, from fifth to sixth place, even if it already manages to exceed the 5 million euro mark. Followed by ’13 exorcisms’ with a drop of 34% and 219 thousand euros in collections; and ‘Hopper, el polloliebre’, which after three weeks of posting adds 133,906 euros to a total of 601,000. They close the ‘Smile’ list, which has already been available for 7 weeks and has dropped by 48%; and ‘One Piece Film Red’, which after a good premiere that placed it directly in third place, drops to tenth with 77% less receipts. Its total remained at €958,551 thanks to the €103,000 it added over the weekend and it averaged €287 per screen with 14,736 admissions.
We will continue in Wakanda
almost certainly, next week the leadership of “Black Panther” will be repeated in the absence of new hits opening this Friday November 18th. The box office will be renewed with ‘Armageddon Time’, the new James Gray with Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Banks Repeta. an eighties drama coming of age against the elitism and racism of an age that is still very present. The romantic comedy ‘Honey, how much I hate you’, the horror of ‘Monstrous’ and two very different national bets: the Christmas one ‘Kings against Santa’ and the drama of ‘La maternal’, the second work behind the camera of Pilar Palomero after the wonderful ‘Las niñas’.
