‘The Chronicles of Narnia’: Netflix would have Greta Gerwig in mind to direct several films of the reboot

According to the What’s on Netflix website, the platform would like to launch the reboot of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ with two films, and would be thinking of Gerwig as a possible director of the project. It should be noted that, for the time being, this is just speculation as Netflix has yet to make any official announcements. Furthermore, it is not yet clear which of the seven novels in the saga would be adapted by Gerwig to audiovisual format.

Gerwig is an American actress, director, screenwriter and producer, best known for her successful projects ‘Lady Bird’ or 2019 adaptation of ‘Little Women’. He is currently responsible for ‘Barbie’, a film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, which is set for a release date of 2023. What do we know about the Narnia reboot?

It is not yet clear which novels of the literary saga will be chosen for adaptation on Netflix. Even so, several media outlets have explained that almost all of the novels in the saga are self-contained enough to be chosen as the starting point for the reboot. However, the author of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ would disagree with that statement as he never believed that his novels should be adapted to live action. His main reason for turning down the film adaptation was that some characters, half man, half animal, might look like “horrible or ridiculous”. “I wish the idiots who run the film business would realize that there are stories that are only meant to be heard”said the author.

Despite the harsh words of the author, There are several novels that can be taken as obvious starting points for Netflix adaptation and one of them, without a doubt, is ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ which was already adapted as a film in 2005. and it’s a familiar story to much of the public. Although, as we have already clarified, there are still no official confirmations on the matter, with the exception of the Netflix announcement of Matthew Alrich, co-writer of ‘Coco’, as ‘creative architect’ and supervisor of the reboot.
