The French Les Arcs Film Festival has presented the 18 European feature film projects that will be presented at the 14th edition of the Les Arcs co-production town from December 10 to 13 against the backdrop of the French Alps.
The meeting, which aims to connect projects with co-producers, financiers, commercial agents and distributors, received 311 contributions this year, 40% more than 2021.
Seven of the projects out of 13 areas are led by female filmmakers and 11 by men, a percentage that reflects the number of applications received for the Coproduction Village.
Nine of these are first films, six are second films and three are by more established filmmakers.
Including that of British director Henry Blake The golden appearance of a Beetle, his second feature film after a brilliant debut provincial lines. The 1919 drama follows an English woman who falls in love with a Chinese dock worker and then turns into a bug due to social hatred.
The Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov will be present Kaia project inspired by his own difficult life experiences, which he started working on before he was arrested by Russian authorities in 2014-2019.
The Austrian filmmaker Sandra Wollner, whose second feature film The problem with childbirth won the special prize of the jury in the sidebar of Encounters in Berlin in 2020 and presents her third feature film every timeabout the tangled relationship between the mother of a deceased teenager and the girl’s first love.
Júlia De Paz hosts Solvas from Spain sick of, which builds on her 2021 short film of the same name, in which she examines domestic violence from a child’s perspective. De Paz Solvas feature film debut mothera grim drama about a homeless young single mother, won the 2021 Spanish Film Festival in Malaga as best film.
All projects compete for the €6,000 ($6,000) ArteKino International Award.
The Co-Production Village runs as part of the Les Arcs Industry Village.
The program, which annually welcomes around 550 cinema professionals, also includes panel discussions and three workshops with sustainability as the common thread.
It also includes the Music Village, which connects music and film professionals; the Talent Village, which aims to nurture eight emerging filmmakers, and Works in Progress Day, the selection of which is yet to be announced.
The overarching event of the Les Arcs Film Festival takes place from 10 to 17 December.
