Phil Tippett has been making a name for himself in the special effects department for forty-five years. However, his work does not always have the same title: in ‘The Golden Boy’ he was “supervisor of demons” and, in “Jurassic Park”, “supervisor of dinosaurs”, a title which, with the advent of social networks, has taken on a whole new dimension: became a Reddit meme purposely misrepresenting his work, blaming him for the dinosaurs escaping and causing havoc.

Ten years after the joke began, Tippett has finally had his say. However, fans will be disappointed by then the special effects legend doesn’t seem to share his humor: “I never got the joke”he admitted, according to the MovieWeb account. “She’s stupid”.
Despite his words, Tippett has previously been shown to have more of a sense of humor than he conveys in his statement: In a 2013 tweet, a year after the meme began, he posted Tweet What he said “Everyone on the internet thinks they would have done a better job supervising the dinosaurs, but you weren’t there!”, with a link to a parody video posted on his YouTube channel, PhilsAttic. In the fifteen seconds of video plays himself as a failed dinosaur overseer, then the creatures are seen running away as he absentmindedly wanders through the city.
In 2015, Tippett returned to the dinosaur world to work on ‘Jurassic World’. Initially, it was renamed “Dinosaur Supervisor”, but was later changed to “Dinosaur Consultant”.perhaps to avoid the continuity of the joke, even if we all know how it came about.
Many will recognize Tippett’s name from appearing in the credits of their favorite movies, such as “Willow,” “Dragon by Lake Fire,” the “Twilight” saga that begins with “New Moon,” or “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’, which earned him the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 1984. Ten years later he will receive his second statuette, precisely for his work in ‘Jurassic Park’.
The latest from Phil Tippett
While his work in the special effects department is what catapulted him to fame, Tippett is also a director and screenwriter. His latest title is ‘Mad God’, a project written and directed by him which took more than 30 years to finish.. Tippett undertook the creation of ‘Mad God’ without the collaboration of any studio, as he was aware that it is something never seen before: “There’s no way I could pitch ‘Mad God’ to a studio. I couldn’t even pitch it myself”he claims. “I dived deeper and tried not to sink to the bottom of the pool”.
