Last week it was announced Sydney Sweety would star in and produce a new film adaptation of Barbarella. The film is based on Jean-Claude ForestFrench comic series and the classic 1968 film he starred Jane Fonda.
The story is set in the 41st century and the president of Earth sends space adventurer Barbarella on a mission to retrieve a scientist. She crashes on a planet and explores her strange customs after a man rescued her from captivity. She must stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose positronic beam threatens to bring evil back to the galaxy.
During a recent interview at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event, Sweeney talked about the film and teased what he was excited to say:
“There are so many things. I mean, Jane Fonda, she created such an amazing and iconic character. And I want to, hopefully, stuff those shoes and give more to a whole new generation: their clothes, science fiction, the fun of history. So I can’t wait. “
I can’t help but be curious about what this movie will be like. The original was rather risky, but it was classified as a PG. I guess this new one will have that R classification. But we’ll have to wait and see.
