David Gordon Green teases his THE EXORCIST sequel and says “He’s really dead”

Director David Gordon Green recently concluded his Halloween trilogy with Halloween ends. He is now busy producing his sequel The exorcist. This is a legacy sequel that will take place after the events of the original 1973 film, and is also planned as a trilogy.

Leslie Odom Jr. (One night in Miami) will act in the film and Ellen Burstyn, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1973 original film, is returning to the franchise. She played Regan’s mother in the original film.

During a recent interview with The Wrap, Green teased what we can expect from the next trilogy, saying:

“I think we’ll learn from the production of the first movie to see what applies as we evolve. It’s in honor of Chris MacNeil and we’re checking it out 50 years later, so it’s a significant evolution in his character, but I think it’s going to be really fun to be. to explore.

“We are about to start a very different kind of technical journey than that Halloween. I don’t even necessarily classify it as a horror movie, even though it’s very attractive to horror, it’s psychological and dramatic. It doesn’t have the fun puzzles that Halloween would, because you can’t lean on any of the more campy qualities I think we enjoy from time to time in Halloween movie. It’s absolutely serious and pretty straightforward, and I don’t know, I’m thrilled. “

So this is just going to be a straightforward psychological horror drama that won’t stop. The original exorcist it was the same way, so I’m good with that.

After years of refusing to play Chris MacNeil again, Burstyn recently talked about playing the character again, saying the reason she does it is for payday!

“You know, what happened is that I rejected many versions of The Exorcist 2. I said no every time. This time they offered me a lot of money and I kept saying no. And then they surprised me and they came back and said, “We doubled the offer.” I said, ‘OK, let me think about this.’ I thought, ‘That’s a lot of money. Let me think about it. ‘ The next thought that came to my mind was, ‘I feel like the devil is asking my price.’ And the next thought that came to my mind was, ‘My price is a scholarship program for talented students to our master’s program at Pace University. This is my price. ‘ So I went back and raised the bar and ended up getting what I wanted. And I have a scholarship program for young actors ”.

He went on to say that he has already shot most of the film and shared what it was like to work with Green, saying:

“And I shot most of the film. The screenwriter and director, David Gordon Green, I really like. I met him and we talked about the script and so on and I promised him another four days if he needed it. And he has edited the film and wants the four days, so I’ll be back in November to shoot another four days and it will be out in [2023] on the 50th anniversary of The exorcistthe original. “
