For 44 days as Prime Minister, Liz Truss is entitled to 130,000 euros per year for life

As a former premier, Liz Truss could receive € 130,000 per year for life – a controversial advantage in the UK.

It is written in British law. Since 1991, former prime ministers are entitled to an allowance of 130,000 euros per year for life. The departure of Liz Truss of the post of Prime Minister after Just 44 days in office it will therefore have been particularly profitable…

The shortest term of prime minister in British history

A controversial advantage in a country hit by inflation

The leader of the British Conservative Party will then be able to claim this compensation equal to 115,000 pounds (131,000 euros) per year. On the British government website we read an explanation of him which is better reread three times to understand it: “Compensation is a reimbursement of expenses incurred for the necessary office and secretarial expenses deriving from their particular position in public life. ”

It is also specified that a former Prime Minister may decide to do so not receive this compensation or to benefit from only a partlike Theresa May, who receives “only” half of this allowance for her term between 2016 and 2019.

As such, many voices have been raised in Britain, believing that Liz Truss shouldn’t enjoy these benefits. Quoted by The GuardianSecretary General of the Union of Public and Commercial Services Mark Serwotka said apologizing:

“At a time when one in five civil servants use the food banks and 35% they skipped meals because they have no foodIS grotesque that Liz Truss can walk away with a £ 115,000 bonus. “

For now the former prime minister did not know if he intended to benefit from this allowance.
