when Dwayne Johnson began his journey in Hollywood as an actor, he was advised to do things that were just against his nature. If he really listened to those people and went in the direction they wanted him to go, he wouldn’t be the hugely successful actor he’s become.

Johnson’s first movie was The mummy returns in 2001, and it’s amazing to see how far it has come. During a recent interview on Good Morning America, the actor shared that at first, in an effort to land more film roles, he was advised to be more like George Clooney, Johnny DeppAnd Will Smith. He explained:

“I tried to think about the past times [filming Black Adam] where I felt really forced. It’s like you’re wearing chains. And people tell me, “Well, you can do it this way, you have to do it that way.” For example, when I first arrived in Hollywood many moons ago I was told – outside the world of pro wrestling – I was told, “Well if you want to do it if you want to be a star” – the biggest stars at that time there were George Clooney and Johnny Depp and Will Smith. So I was told: ‘You can’t call yourself The Rock. Don’t talk about professional wrestling. You have to lose weight, go on a diet, you are too big, don’t go to the gym so much. ‘

“There were a lot of things like that being said to me and if you don’t know any better, you believe it. And I accepted for a couple of years before saying, ‘This ends now. And I will be myself and at least if I fail, I will fail by being myself. ‘ So, I took advantage of this, because a lot of these elements are what surrounds Black Adam’s life. And the existence of him being told ‘you have to do it that way’ “.

I remember in those early films when Johnson was much smaller than he is now. The boy is a damn beast now! But, if you look back at those early films of his, you can see that he was doing what people were telling him to do. Fortunately, he realized that being himself was the right move to create his own path to success. It worked!
