Netflix’s Glass Onion: A MYSTERY OF KNIVES Get a limited theatrical release on Thanksgiving week

The highly anticipated sequel to Netflix, Glass onion: a mystery chases away, will be released on Netflix just before Christmas this year. But while we wait, we will have the opportunity to see it in a select cinema in the week of Thanksgiving!

This is an unprecedented deal, in which the big three exhibitors – AMC, Cinemark and Regal – agree with the release of a major Netflix title. AMC chief Adam Aron says the streamer and these three theater companies have “cracked the code” to work together, while Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger is optimistic about bigger things to come, exclaiming, “This experiment is a breakthrough both. for the theatrical industry than for Netflix and may pave the way for stronger cooperation in the future, as high-budget Netflix movies will surely belong to the big screen first. “

While this is an exciting partnership, it is explained that the film will not see wide distribution, rather 600 theaters booked in the US and Canada, as well as additional markets overseas. It is billed by Netflix as a preview run. Here are some of the terms: Knives out 2 will air for a week, November 23-29, and then there will be a blackout period for the film in the remaining weeks before it arrives on Netflix on December 23. Essentially a 30 day window, even if theaters don’t have it for 30 days. Note that with other Netflix theatrical releases, independent cinemas held their titles in the following weeks even if one title goes into service. It is entirely possible that if Knives out 2 it does substantial business, it could be held in the big chains, but at this point it is a matter to be seen. Deadline reports that Netflix will not report box office data for Glass Onion.

Director Rian Johnson said about the plan:

“I’m over the moon that Netflix has partnered with AMC, Regal and Cinemark to bring Glass Onion to theaters for this one-of-a-kind preview. These films are made to thrill the audience and I can’t wait to feel the energy of the crowd as they experiment Glass Onion. Between that and the Netflix release in December, I’m thrilled that audiences around the world will be enjoying the film! ”

Scott Stuber, Head of Global Netflix Film added:

“We are thrilled to offer fans an exclusive preview of Rian’s incredible film. Given the excitement surrounding the premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, we hope fans will enjoy this special theatrical event to celebrate the film’s global debut on Netflix in December. “

Glass onion: a mystery chases away see Daniel Craig returns as suave southern detective Benoit Blanc as he removes the layers on a new mystery surrounded by a colorful circle of suspects played by a star-studded cast that includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline with Kate Hudson And Dave Battista. Johnson also wrote and produced alongside his partner Ram Bergman under the T-Street banner.

This is a pretty exciting deal. I hope it goes well so that fans can choose to stream the movies in theaters if they wish. Glass onion: a mystery chases away will be released in theaters on Wednesday November 23, the day before Thanksgiving, and air on Netflix on December 23, 2022.
