“A truly wild dream” Black Panther 2 director talks about new MCU movie – Diffusion (Marvel)
The film Black Panther: Wakanda forever is nearing release. The trailer left all Marvel fans speechless, showing us the new Black Panther and more details on the character Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta, and who has references to Mayan culture.
In this first trailer we can see the details of the underwater kingdom Talocan, just like the character Namor said, it is called Kukulkan, a clear reference to the god of Mayan culture, who for the Aztecs was “Quetzalcoatl”. The director of the film talked about the character of Namor and the ribbon construction process.
For director Ryan Coogler Wakanda and Talocan have some similarities
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is already a phenomenon among MCU fans and before its theatrical release, more details about the film were released. The underwater kingdom of Namor is inspired by Mayan culture, so the team behind the film had to do extensive research with experts on the subject.
The director of the film, Ryan Coogler, explained Weekly entertainment several details on the character played by Tenoch Huerta, who shares the screen with the actress, also Mexican, Mabel Cadena. In the original comic Namor is the ruler of Atlantis, but in the second part of Black Panther some changes have been made to the character.
Coogler stressed that for this new film he wanted to lean on unique skins of Namor”I think in making this kind of film, you have to lean on the weird things, or you risk missing out on what makes it fun,” Coogler observes, before describing different aspects of the character.
“He’s got really unique features and things that don’t necessarily go together. He can breathe underwater, of course, but he’s got these little wings on his ankles. He’s got pointy ears and he goes around in his underwear. It’s all fun, man.”
In this new story we will again see the nation of Wakanda and the new Mayan-inspired nation, Talocan, which, like Wakanda, was hidden and has now been shown overseas. The director describes both as a kind of “El Dorado”, a advanced civilization “hidden in plain sight”.
Finally, he talked about the atmosphere they wanted to create for the film: “What we wanted was to just make it tactile, even if it felt like a dream,” Coogler explains. “The film should look like a really wild dream you would have had, but where everything really seemed to be there.
