Here is a fun and interesting video that shows what it was like for the cast and crew to shoot an action scene James Cameron’S Avatar using motion capture technology. As we watch it, we also see what the end result of their hard work and effort looks like as a finished product.
Motion capture production looks absolutely ridiculous and has to be a wild experience for the actors to shoot this way. He’s so crazy! But it works!
The video was shared by Avatar stunt coordinator Garrett Warrenwhat he said:
This was a fun and inspiring sequence for #Avatar. Jim @jamescammeronofficial wanted to have an exact replica of an Ikran, only he had to be soft, so we didn’t hurt an actor. The legendary Stan Winston and his company made it for us. First we spent half a day trying to figure out how we were going to be the puppeteer of the “rubber chicken” as Jim called him then. It took about two hours with Jim (Cameron) to train the technique used by a Na’vi warrior to mount and then create the bond. Yes, Jim wanted me to make the sounds that an Ikran would make too, so somewhere there is a trace of me impersonating a cross between a horse and a pterodactyl. 😂
Shooting this brought us the best part of the day. Sam (Worthington) was a great sport and I applaud him for having such a great imagination!
Check it out!
