During Disney Studio’s big presentation at D23 Expo, they showed the first footage of his next film Peter Pan and Wendy. The film was directed by David Lowerywho commanded Peter’s dragon And The Green Knight. I like the movies he makes because he tends to tell such beautiful stories in visually stunning ways. I love his style and this next film of his is no exception. It looks like it will deliver another wonderful movie!
I was happy with the footage because there is actually a bit of imagination behind it and it’s not just a shot-by-shot remake like The Lion Kingand, more recently, Pinocchio. The short footage we saw showed Wendy going to Neverland and meeting the Lost Boys … and the girls. It has a much more real tone and it is explained that “Wendy and Peter are the same in this movie”.
We also saw footage of Jude Law as Captain Hook, and he was unrecognizable! Law’s Captain Hook was awesome and I’m thrilled to see more footage of him as the classic Disney villain. He will kill him in this role! Speaking about the film and his character, Law said, “We got to dig a little deeper into their backstory and get to know their pasts when they were friends. It was nice to get a deeper understanding of why Hook is so iconic.
See the poster below:

The film is based on the novel by JM Barrie Peter and Wendyand is inspired by the 1953 animated classic, Peter Pan. “Peter Pan and Wendy is the timeless story of a young girl who, defying her parents’ desire to go to boarding school, travels with her two younger brothers to the magical Neverland. There she meets a boy who refuses to grow up, a little fairy and an evil pirate captain, and they soon find themselves on an exciting and dangerous adventure far, far from their family and the comforts of home.
The film is the protagonist Always Anderson like Wendy, Alessandro Molony like Peter Pan, Judas Law and Captain Hook, and Yara Shahidi plays Tinker Bell in the film. He is also the protagonist Molly Parker like Mrs. Darling, Alan Tudyk like Mr. Darling, Joshua Pickering like Giovanni, Jacobi Jupe like Michele, Alyssa Wapanatank like Tiger Lily, and Jim Gaffigan like Smee.
Lowery previously shared his vision of the film, saying he wanted to do “The avenger with flying children, “and explained:” I hesitate to use the word grounded because it contains fairies and flying children. But when I went to talk to the studio about it I was like ‘And if we stick with the source material, remove the problematic elements of both the novel and the animated film, of course, but then treat it as if The avenger. What if we did The Revenant with the flying children? ‘ And they were involved. It’s not that 100%, but it’s some kind of ethos we made it happen … It was kind of an idea, that it was visceral, that it was grounded, it’s still joyful, it’s still full of exuberance and magic, that’s why I don’t like to use the word ‘rooted’ ”.
Lowery went on to say that the film was shot on location and not on stage. In addition, she also worked a large part of the crew that worked on the film The avenger. She then discussed his opinion of him on the material and how it could be the most grown-up film she has made:
“Well, you can’t see the video, but at the moment I sat next to me the skeleton of a lost boy who didn’t make it. The strangest thing is that when Disney brought it to me and asked me if the ‘I should have been interested in doing it, I got the same answer which is that it looks like it was done a lot earlier. Do we need another Peter Pan movie? … But then I started thinking about what it means to me and I I just personally invested in it and so all I can say is that I am bringing my perspective into it and by doing so I realized that it could be the most adult film I have ever made, in terms of how it approaches its theme, ironically talking about a child who does not want to grow up. It is a very mature view of the material and of course we are still shooting it, so I hope that I do not realize that I have taken the wrong path and change everything in the editing.
“This in itself is interesting to me, I hope it’s interesting to others, but then I also think it’s true, it’s an evergreen property. Like Robin Hood, like Dracula, there will be more Peter Pan films in the future, but for a specific generation this will be the first time, and I want to make it the best possible version for that audience, for those viewers, for those people who will be introduced to a time-honored legend vis-a-vie this movie, and that’s really important to me “.
Lowery previously spoke about the film, saying, “Peter Pan has long been one of my favorite stories, partly because I always resisted growing up, but also because of the heart, adventure and imagination that make the story original. by JM Barrie so timeless. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to redefine his iconic characters for a new generation – and even more thrilled to be able to do so with such an exceptional cast and crew. “
Peter Pan and Wendy will debut on Disney + in 2023.
