It was discovered a few days ago Adam Driver AND Steven Soderberghit’s the secret Star Wars project, The Hunt for Ben Solowent further in development than fans realized, only to be shut down by Disney executives shortly before it could get off the ground.
The driver shocked fans with the revelation that he was working on a Star Wars film together with Soderbergh and the writer Scott Z. Burns.
The film that would resurrect Ben Solo after his death The Rise of Skywalkerhad the full support of Lucasfilm. But the Disney bigwigs, Bob Iger AND Alan Bergmannthey were not sold and killed him. Now fans are responding to the decision with a fun campaign that they hope will bring the project back to life.
Days later Star Wars fans paid a plane to fly a banner reading “Save the Hunt for Ben Solo” over Disney Studios in Burbank, California, Collider reported that a billboard appeared at 1500 Broadway, between 43rd and 44th, above Carlo’s Bake Shop. The sign read “For Adam. No one is ever truly gone. Hope lives on. Ben is alive! #THBS.”
Driver said in a recent interview with the AP: “I’ve always been interested in doing another one Star Wars” Driver said. “I’ve been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen [Kennedy] had achieved. I’ve always said, “With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second.” I loved that character and I loved playing him. His name was The Hunt for Ben Soloand it was really great. But it doesn’t exist anymore, so I can finally talk about it.
During the interview, Driver revealed how the script was received and how the project was killed. “We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our point of view and why we were doing it,” Driver said. “We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was it.”
Soderbergh commented on Driver’s revelation on his Bluesky account, confirming the project’s existence. “For the record, I didn’t like lying about the existence of ‘THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO,’ but it really was supposed to remain a secret… until now! I really enjoyed making the movie in my head,” Soderbergh added. “I’m just sorry the fans won’t be able to see it.”
But maybe we will if enough hype is made. Do you want to see? The Hunt for Ben Solo?
