It turns out even Emma Stone it couldn’t break Andrea Garfieldit is the web of lies. The actress recently revealed this The Extraordinary Spider-Man co-star kept his Spider-Man: No Way Home It’s a secret for her too, even when she asked her directly.
Stone first entered the Spider-Man universe as Gwen Stacy in 2012 The Extraordinary Spider-Manlater returning for the 2014 sequel. That film was supposed to create a huge franchise, including The Amazing Spider-Man 3, The six leftand also to Poison spin-off, but Sony’s plans were shelved after the sequel’s disappointing performance.
When the web-slinger eventually made his way to the MCU with Tom Holland taking over Captain America: Civil Warit looked like Garfield’s chapter was officially closed. But years later, the actor pulled off one of Marvel’s biggest surprises by reprising his role in the 2021 film. Spider-Man: No Way Home right next door Tobey Maguire.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Stone admitted that Garfield didn’t just lie to fans, he lied to her as well. He recalled:
“I asked him if he would be there [movie] and he said to me, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I thought, “What?” Oh, I guess that means no, but it wasn’t no, it was yes. Good for him. He kept it very close to his vest.
When Horowitz mentioned the emotional moment between Garfield’s Peter and another version of Gwen No way homeStone confessed that she had not yet seen the film.
“I haven’t actually seen it, no. It would be very exciting, I’m sure. I hear it’s great. I’ll see it sometime.”
Clearly, looking No way home it wasn’t at the top of Stone’s to-do list. She’s been busy moving forward with other projects, leaving her Marvel days in the rearview mirror. And since Gwen remains dead in the Garfield universe, fans probably shouldn’t expect her to appear Avengers: Secret Wars.
As for Garfield, he insists he won’t be returning for any upcoming Marvel movies, but after fooling everyone (including Stone) once, can anyone really take his word for it? Rumors continue to circulate that both Garfield and Maguire could appear again, possibly Avengers: Judgment Day next year.
Whether he fits in or not, you have to give Garfield credit for his effort. Even in the face of leaks and fan theories, he never gave up. That secrecy helps make the reveal of all three Spider-Men sharing the screen one of the most unforgettable cinematic moments in recent memory.
Reflecting on his time in the Spidey universe earlier this year, Stone said:
“I really loved doing ‘Spider-Man’. I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrea [Garfield] There. I met Sally Field. Marc Webb was wonderful. It was a really special moment in my life.
“This is a recurring theme: it’s the people, rather than the film itself, that stick with me for so long. I have only fond memories of the experience.”
