STRANGER THINGS showrunner says theatrical finale is a dream come true, but warns fans they’ll ‘cry in front of strangers’

Be prepared to grab some popcorn and maybe a box of tissues. THE Stranger things the saga is coming to an end and co-showrunner Ross Duffer confirmed that the final episode will be shown in theaters.

This is something he’s wanted for the franchise for years, but he has a warning for fans before they buy tickets… prepare to get excited.

Taking to Instagram, Duffer shared the exciting update along with an image of the adorable drawing featuring Lucas and Max proposing to each other Stranger things Season 4. Wrote:

“The ending. Cinema. New Year’s Eve. This is something my brother and I have been dreaming about for years. If you don’t mind crying in front of strangers, GO. And if you’re in Los Angeles…maybe I’ll see you there.”

It’s really cool that fans get to experience the Hawkins crew’s final showdown on the big screen. THE Stranger things Season 5 finale, which Matt Duffer previously revealed to be “about two hours” long, it was originally slated to premiere exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix’s chief content officer also seemed to dismiss the idea of a theatrical release earlier this month, saying:

“Many people – many, many, many people – have watched Stranger Things on Netflix. It hasn’t suffered from a lack of conversation, community, sharing or fandom. I think releasing it on Netflix gives the fans what they want.”

Luckily for fans (and the Duffer brothers), the plan has changed. Netflix will now partner with AMC and other theater chains in the US to bring the finale to theaters Stranger things history the great greeting it deserves.

The fifth season will see the return of Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Grappa, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, Winona RyderAND Davide Portoalong with some new faces, including Terminator legend Linda Hamilton.

The final season of Stranger things will be released in three parts on Netflix, on November 26, December 25 and December 31. So whether you’re streaming from your couch or watching the finale on the big screen, Hawkins will go out with a bang and a few tears.

Stranger things started out as a nostalgic love letter to the ’80s, but has become a cultural juggernaut. Seeing its final moments unfold in theaters seems like the perfect way to say goodbye.
