This latest ancient discovery in Poland is absolutely fascinating! The skeleton of a “vampire woman” was discovered by archaeologists in a 17th century cemetery in Pień, Poland.

The excavation was conducted by a team of researchers from the Nicolaus Copernicus University led by Professor Dariusz Poliński. The skeleton they found was nailed to the ground and there was a scythe placed on its neck.

The scythe was used by superstitious people at the time, in case the dead person they thought was a vampire came back to life, they would cut off their head when they tried to sit up.

Poliński said: “The scythe was not stretched out but placed on the neck in such a way that if the deceased had tried to stand up … the head would have been cut or injured.”

The professor also revealed that the skeleton had a lock wrapped around the toe, which apparently reinforces the theory that she was considered a vampire at the time of her death.

I love history.
