It looks like Eternia’s original hero is making a comeback. Dolph Lundgrenwho famously wielded the Mighty Sword as He-Man in 1987 Masters of the Universe film, has hinted that he may appear in Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action reboot.
During a chat with Extra TV, Lundgren was asked if he was involved in the news Masters of the Universe movie, and his response pretty much confirmed it with a smile, saying:
“Maybe so, you’ll have to check it out when it comes out.”
Fans have been speculating about Lundgren’s return ever since he posted about working on a “secret” project in London during the early days of production. While his role remains a secret, the leading theory is that he could be playing King D’Vann Grayskull, He-Man’s legendary ancestor.
Lundgren also shared his thoughts on the new film and why he’s excited to see it Masters of the Universe return to the big screen:
“If you think a new He-Man movie makes you feel old, I feel old! I was there too! They’ve been trying to remake the movie for at least 15 years and I’m happy they’re doing it. It’s a great cast, a great crew. It’s a big budget movie with MGM/Amazon. I think they’re doing a great job.”
He went on to compare Prince Adam’s personality to today’s modern superheroes, saying:
“Prince Adam has a little more romantic character than the other superheroes. Marvel and DC are a little more edgy. There’s something magical and childish about that. And even though they’re making a movie for adults, there’s something soft and positive about that character.”
The new Masters of the Universe movie stars Nicola Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, with Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto like Skeletor, and Idris Elba as a man of arms.
Morena Baccarin plays The Witch, while James Purefoy AND Charlotte Riley tplays the roles of King Randor and Queen Marlena. Alison Brie joins the cast as Evil-Lyn, next Sam C. Wilson in the role of Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah like Tri-Klops, Jon Xue Zhang like Ram-Man, and Kristin Wiigdubbing Roboto.
After years of false starts, Amazon MGM has finally taken up the sword Hornet director Travis Knight put at the helm. The script was rewritten by Chris Butlerbased on an earlier draft of David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
The film will follow the events of the young Prince Adam who falls to Earth and grows up far from Eternia, unaware of his royal destiny. Years later, he rediscovers his magical Power Sword and is transported home to face the evil Skeletor and reclaim his true identity as He-Man, “the most powerful man in the universe.”
Masters of the Universe will bring the power back to theaters on June 5, 2026.
