Since last September 2nd, ‘The Hammer saga: Scandal and perversion’ is now available in the HBO Max catalog. Despite being announced the arrival of a new chapter every week, finally the platform has released the three episodes that make up the title of Discovery in which the allegations of manipulation, abuse and rape against Armie Hammer are investigated, and it is also the dark side shown of his family, one of the most powerful in the United States.

The ‘The Hammer Saga’ team has had first-hand testimonies, such as Courtney Vucekovich, who was in a relationship with ‘The Social Network’ actor, or Julia Morrison, who received creepy offers on Instagram that Hammer tried to sell as BDSM but which have grown darker and more dangerous. They never met in person.
Who did not have was Effie, a 26-year-old European woman who posted a video statement (seen in the documentary) in which she accused the actor of violently raping her for hours, and who started publishing testimonials about her. Instagram account @houseofeffie, one of the reasons this affair ended up reaching the reach it achieved. The Los Angeles Times was able to contact the victim, who confirmed that the documentary’s producers offered to participate but she rejected the proposal because she strongly condemns the idea of docuseries: “It is totally inappropriate for you to take advantage of such a tragic and vulnerable moment in the lives of so many people, regardless of our healing process and our privacy.”. Effi added: “The way they exploited my trauma is disgusting. When I keep yelling “no” and they keep saying they don’t need my permission, Armie comes to mind”.
The directors react
Elli Hakami and Julian Hobbs, directors of ‘The Hammer Saga’, defend themselves by saying that it was a “editorial decision” not interviewing Effie because she is the only victim who adequately denounced Armie Hammer: “She is the only one with an ongoing investigation against him. I think it was an editorial decision to allow this to continue and not get involved in something that is being investigated by the LAPD.”. They hide behind saying that the statement she made with the allegations entered the public conversation as soon as he made it public and therefore they don’t need your permission to show it. They respond to Effie’s criticism by saying this “as directors they have an obligation to tell stories”.
The victim also did not know that his lawyer, Gloria Allred, would participate in the docuseries. He guarantees that all his testimonials are “consistent with the representation, expressly or implicitly authorized, and were made because I believed they would benefit my client”. With the investigation underway and the conversation that “The Hammer saga” will rekindle, we have controversy for a while.
